Blogging for me is all about sharing things that interest me with the people around me…

recently i’ve been using Facebook to do this rather than wordpress - it’s much easier to post to, and more people see it.

so if you are reading this and aren’t my facebook friend, friend me and you’ll get all the stuff that i find interesting.

i may come back to this blog in the future, but at the moment facebook is fulfilling the need…

Ecko paid $752,467 in the Sotheby’s/SCP bidding war for Bonds’ 756th home-run ball and was rewarded on Saturday when he won the auction. But instead of keeping the prize all for himself, Ecko decided to let fans determine its fate. He has set up a Web site, Vote756.com, where fans can vote on three different possible outcomes for the ball: Send it to Cooperstown with or without an asterisk — to signify the controversy that has accompanied Bonds’ home-run record — or launch it into space.

Rouxbe a cooking website that i had a trial membership to.

i quite liked using it, but wasn’t ready to commit to paying for the content for a year (it’s US$50 pa - only $1 pw, but still…)

now they have a new model where i can be sponsored by a company, who will pay my membership, for the right to advertise to me.

Find me a Sponsor

It works like this. You tell us what interests you have in the food and culinary world. We try and match you up with a sponsoring company that will pay your way on Rouxbe. For example, if you tell us that you are interested in wine, we might align you with a value-added sponsor from a winery who can provide you with wine pairings and wine knowledge.

But wait, isn’t this just an ad? Here’s the difference. There are no large or expanding banner ads, no 15 or 30 second ads before or during the content and no pop-ups on Rouxbe. Remember, at Rouxbe the food is the celebrity. This will never change. We promise. Sponsors get to put their logo on the page and are able to provide links to their offerings, but our goal is that these links will be contextual to you and will never interfere with your cooking experience on Rouxbe. Not to mention that all links are completely “opt-in” leaving you in full control.

the alarm clock of the future…

Marcus Brown started an ideas company The Ides of March and has even written a letter for you to give your boss :)

Hello.

I think we have a problem, and I’m pretty sure you know which one I’m talking about. I don’t think we can solve the problem on our own, I would like to get some outside help on it and I think I found a little company that can help us.

The company is called “The Ides of March” and it specialises in ideas and innovation. All we have to do is send through a brief description of our problem to marcus@the-ides-of-march.com and we’ll get an idea on how to solve it. I’ve checked and getting a NDA signed isn’t a problem.

The interesting thing is that if we decide that the idea is good and we want to buy it, we determine the value of the idea and it belongs to us. If we don’t want to buy the idea then it is published on The Ides of March website as something called “open source rejection”.

This could be an interesting way to sort things out. What do you think? Have a look at the website, it’s a little odd but explains what it’s all about.
